In my spare time, i do the oddbit of engine rebuild work for my mates, |
This is my mate Marks 3.9 v8 which he bought to replace the 3.5 v8 he has now, But as you can see it is in a grim state. |
After many hours of scrubbing it started to clean up, |
After many more hours the block starts to look real smart, |
The bottom end was not much better, |
After the block was cleaned down it was time for work, the bores looked like they could do with a freshen up |
After a honing the bores are nearly ready for the new rings. |
Pistons ready for refit also now after a good clean, |
Freshly reground HRC crank with new bearings |
Even the main caps and bolts got the clean up treatment |
After trip to Real Steel, I had a nice collection up parts for Marks 3.9, these included, moly adjustable pushrods, complete gasket kit, holley trick kit, |
The cam i am fitting is a piper 270, not as mad as the 285 in my 3.9, but will still make enjoyable driving off the lights, to top this off is a double timing chain and steel gears, |
The crank fitted along with a new set of core plugs, |
Pistons also now fitted, |
Top view of the pistons all cleaned and fitted, |
Cam gear on trial fit, next job is dialing the cam in, |
Setting No1 piston at TDC with a dial gauge |
Checking the cam lift, as to work out the full lift |
Cam gauge fitted awaiting the cam to be dialled in, |
Second view of cam being dialled in |
Here you can see me setting the lifter preload with adujstable push rods |
Stage1 heads were used for Mark's 3.9 |
